I first laid eyes on a Samsung Omnia i900 at the Korean company's booth in CommunicAsia in Singapore last June. It was launched here in October, so I was a bit surprised when the Samsung Electronics Indonesia PR company called me and offered an opportunity to review it. I immediately accepted the offer. Although it is already a few months old, as far as I can recall it is the first Samsung smartphone I have ever tested. I was given only one week to put it through its paces, so I had to work fast. By the way, it is not really a surprise that Samsung Electronics Indonesia wants to reinforce in our memory the 3G HSDPA Omnia's image as a premium handset. |

On new cell phones, QWERTY eases out 1-2-3
Peter Svensson , The Associated Press , Las Vegas, US | Sat, 04/04/2009 10:25 AM | Sci-Tech
The Samsung Impression, the first phone on the U.S. market with a screen that uses organic light-emitting diodes rather than liquid crystals, is shown at the International CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas, Wednesday. The shift from numerical keypads to alphabetic keyboards, which has overturned cell phone design in the space of a two years, is a recognition of the popularity of text messaging, and to a lesser extent, wireless Internet use. AP/Jae C. Hong
Goodbye, numeric cell phone keypads. You're going the way of the rotary dial. Touch screens and QWERTY keyboards will take over from here, thank you.

It unifies your phone numbers, transcribes your voice mail, blocks telemarketers and elevates text messages to first-class communication citizens. And that’s just the warm-up.

The Polaroid camera is back, in digital Peter Svensson , The Associated Press , Las Vegas | Thu, 01/08/2009 2:42 PM | Sci-Tech The Polaroid Zinc instant print camera is demonstrated in New York. (AP/Bebeto Matthews) A strange little ritual used to go along with Polaroid cameras. The shooter would grab the print as it came out of the camera and wave it in the air, as if that would stimulate the chemicals and make the picture appear faster. It didn't. Yet it felt dumb to just stand there, waiting for the picture to develop. |
