Ironman China

Ironman China takes place in Haikou, which is the capital of the Hainan Province, China's second largest island.

Set in the South China sea, boasting jade blue waters and white sandy beaches, there aren't many more stunning places in the world to undertake the ultimate endurance of a triathlon.

The event starts with a swim in the Nandu River, there are two 1900m loops to complete in the slow moving, mid 20's degree Celsius temperature river. After completing the first loop, participants will exit the river, run through a chute and complete the second loop.

The cycling and running parts of the triathlon have been moved to the east side of Haikou to avoid traffic generated by the port on the west side.

The cycling section involves completing two 90km loops on wide roads in excellent condition taking in interesting spectacles such as the mud, brick and rock buildings in one of the rural villages on route and through the scenic Crater Park.

"It is so comfortable lying here I do not want to get up". Most people have heard this phrase but not many have heard it from someone lying in the middle of a road in the middle of an afternoon. The location was not in the middle of nowhere, it just seemed that way; 150 km from the start and 30 km from the finish of the cycle leg of Challenge Wanaka an ironman length triathlon in New Zealand.
